After the Rain
by Mary MacDonald
Lulled by the dim and scolding
flicker of stars measuring
the day in perfect sweet silence
world behind the world
I keep this quietness a secret.
Even the wind the floating
distant scolding wah of jays
animals stilled at the edge
of the forest door do not
eclipse the wholeness
of our having been somewhere.
